Got a lab puppy. Breeders said he was pure. He has pink and black tongue. What do you think?

He looks just like a lab. 13 weeks old. Yellow with the little floppy ears. His hair is short. Not fluffy like some.

He probably is a purebred, the spot on the tongue is just a birth mark. Our lab pup has one as well :)

It just means that the black on his tongue is a birth mark. Nothin other than that.

Purebred Labradors can have black spotted tongues.

Who was this "breeder" you got him from?

Dont worry... very common.... just extra pigment.

is that even normal?

Don't worry about his tongue, it will likely change color. I once owned a pure bred retriever who had a pink nose. It changed to black at about 6 months old. If in question contact the breeder and or get advice from another breeder in the area.

Probably pure. My lab puppy is pure, pedigree and we have all of his papers. His tongue is mostly pink with a few black spots.

the pigment on the tongue has nothing to do with whether he is a pure bred or not. it's a matter of genetics, and of pigment placement on the body. and really, would you love him any less if he wasn't purebred?

I had a black lab that I know was a purebred dog and he had some spots on his tongue too. You should be able to ask the breeder to see the parents of the dog and if they are registered you can look up the lineage. Depending on how much you paid for the dog I would say enjoy him-spots and all:%26gt;) and don't worry about it.

If your puppy is pure then he should have registeration papers. That is the only way to be 100% sure he is pure.

However pink tongue/black tongue...means nothing.

Mismarks on any dog are common, labs included. A spotted tongue CAN happen. Did you get AKC papers? If so, the dog is most likely purebred.

The dog is most likely pet-bred and might or might not really resemble a lab due to indiscriminant breeding practices, but a spotted tongue doesn't mean it's NOT purebred.
