Brush it carefully don't force or pull it. Brush it with a good brush not hard metal or untipped plastic.Try parting in the center and two pony tails, use the covered hair bands not rubber bands. A good gel, maybe like

Fantasia IC Clear with clear lites (It doesn't flake)
