Is it animal abuse if you use hair dye on your much loved pet?

I would love to dye my dog hot pink, just once.... but I am afraid some animal lover nut would say it is abuse and someone would take him away from me.

I LOVE MY DOG, and have him groomed regularly and take him to the vets, but I do NOT want to risk anyone saying I was abusing him. I mean he can't talk and say he loves his mommy and everything else is A OK.

go to a groomer that dyes dog hair all the time. they probably use some animal-friendly dye. plus, it can't be inhumane by any means in that case. be sure to post pics if you do it :)

you would need to speak with your vet before you do because dogs skin is very very sensitive and dye has many things that can cause a reaction. Please don't use human hair dye, he'll get sick!

Dye him with red koolaid.. he'll end up pink.. and it's chemical free!!!

Please don't put actual chemicals on your puppy!! :)

It's not cruel as long as it is proven to be safe for your pet. Human dyes and shampoos can be very harmful to animals, others not so much. I would ask around to different pet groomers, and see if they know any products or have business contacts that you could look into.

It certainly is doing something that is not in the best interest of the dog though. I do believe you love your dog, and as long as you show unconditional love, and care for your pet and do no harm, then cudos to you!

I would say no, just don't get it in there eyes.

Yes,it is harmful to your much loved pet.

Hairdyes have harmful chemicals like ortho-phenylenediamine that would cause oxidative DNA damage rather than bacterial mutagenicity.

It is not only applicable to pets but also to humans who loves styling and coloring their hairs.

The posible effects of hairdyes are bladder cancer, fatal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and multiple myeloma...

I dont think you want your pet to have any of those fatal illnesses,so STOP using hairdyes to your pet...

as long as you use a dye that is safe for pets, no its not cruelty.

Some people may claim its cruel.. just like some people thing dressing your dog up is cruel. However, if its not causing your pet harm or discomfort then it is not cruelty!

Go ahead with it, and have fun! I wish I could dye mine, but he's black! I supposed I could get some face paints tho and have fun with that.. he is hairless!

Coloring dogs is not cruel as long as the dog enjoys having it done and what you use is safe.

I color my dog all the time, and groomers compete in creative styling competitions (do a search for creative grooming)

I have used kool aid, blow pens, sidewalk chalk, manic panic and punky color. Other groomers have used other products, but I havent. If your dog has any kind of skin problems...I woulndt color.

They do sell color for dogs...petsilk has some.

The only place it IS illegal to color your dog in in FL (some stupid law they have down there..silly i think)

I personally don't think it's cruel, as long as you use something that you know for sure will be safe for your pooch. However, I'm sure there are people out there that would consider it abuse or at least a bit cruel, but nobody can legally take him from you just for dying his hair. If you've done your research and know the dye you want to use is safe, then go for it. It's your dog, you know how well he's being taken care of, so screw the people that might have something negative to say about it.
