Is it appropriate for a principal to...?

... suspend a studnet because they decide to spray paint their hair a funky color? I feel that it isn't but 3 or 4 students got suspended at my school because of the fact that, so what we are on a college campus, I mean still, even if does look silly when a guy paints his hair pink. I told my girl friend that I would bring in a bunch of different color hairspray cans, so that we can all spray paint our hair. I want to see him suspend all of us. So please, post wether you think this is right and if the students should appeal to the school board.

It depends on how the school's dress and grooming code reads. All schools have them. Know your facts before you go before the school board and get a cope from that school. If it is, in fact, against the code then you can't do anything about the suspends. You could, however, find out what the proper protocal is for getting the code reviewed for possible change.

appropriate- no

legally - yes

If spray painting their hair was against the school's dress code, the principal had every right to suspend those students.

You think the rules are strict at school? Wait until you grow up and get a job.

That is kinda biased, but your job is too Graduate school not prolong it, so just focus on that.

If you're on a "college campus," as you say, unless it's private and likely religion-oriented, it won't even be a problem. As far as "suspension" goes, again, I've never heard of that in any college, or of having a "principal" at a college. If you're in high school, which it sounds like, they can suspend you for pretty much anything they want if they can figure out a way to say it's disruptive to other students (which is pretty easy to do with the issue of unnatural hair colors).

no i dont think that is right dont think its hurting anyone so whats the problem

All schools have their own rules and regs. If it's covered -- or the principal THINKS it's covered -- he's within his rights. And you can be pretty sure he gets legal advice before suspending anyone.

if its against the dress code then yeah...if not then no

sounds like the school is private.

The School just wants everyone to look respectable and decent.

MY advice=%26gt; obey superiors, get your diploma, run your own business so you don't have a boss, color your hair any color you want and live life the way you want to.

If it's not against the school's code then the principle should not have suspended them. If they want to color their hair, let them. They are in college. Out on their own. They can do what they want as long as it is not against the rules.

I dont see why someone gets suspended for that. If someone wants purple hair who cares.
